- My Favorite Martian: Season 1, episode 4, "Russians R in Season" (1963). After Tim publishes an article with a formula Martin muttered in his sleep, the government suspects that he's a Russian spy and makes him take a lie detector test.
- Gilligan's Island: Season 3, episode 19, "Lovey's Secret Admirer" (1967). To find out who's been writing love letters to Mrs. Howell, the Professor builds a lie detector machine out of coconuts and various parts from the ship and the radio and uses it to question the Skipper and Gilligan.
- America 2 Night: Season 1, episode 14, "Pharaoh Fawcett and the Sphinx" (1978). A police officer demonstrates a lie detector test by connecting Sherman Hemsley to it while Barth interviews him.
- Barney Miller: Season 5, episode 14, "Voice Analyzer" (1979). A series of articles about cops taking bribes has Scanlon on a witch hunt. He insists on interviewing the detectives of the 12th precinct with a new kind of lie detector that supposedly analyzes the stress in a person's voice.
- The Greatest American Hero: Season 1, episode 4, "Saturday Night on Sunset Boulevard" (1981). The FBI gives Bill is bi-annual lie detector test, and he fails the question, "Has anything peculiar or unusual happened to you in the last six months?" He has to take another test, and if he fails again, he'll lose his badge.
- Newhart: Season 1, episode 18, "The Boy Who Cried Goat" (1983). Kirk claims a man robbed his café at gunpoint, but because of his reputation in town, his insurance company isn't sure he's telling the truth, so they give him a lie detector test.
- Beavis and Butt-Head: Season 4, episode 32, "Liar! Liar!" (1994). When some money goes missing from the register at Burger World, their boss makes them take a lie detector test. Butt-head tries to trick it by holding his breath until he passes out, and Beavis somehow convinces the tester that he's a serial killer that's been wanted since 1969.
- Seinfeld: Season 6, episode 15, "The Beard" (1995). When Jerry tells his new cop girlfriend that he's never seen Melrose Place
, she doesn't believe him and gives him a lie detector test, which he fails.
- NewsRadio: Season 4, episode 4, "Super Karate Monkey Death Car" (1997). The efficiency expert Mr. James hired gives everyone in the office a lie detector test and discovers some surprising things about Lisa.
- My Name is Earl: Season 2, episode 8, "Robbed a Stoner Blind" (2006). Joy practices trying to fool a lie detector for her criminal case, and while she's wired to it, she accidentally reveals that she's lying to Earl.
