America's Most Wanted
A character suspects someone they know of secretly being a killer or other type of hardcore criminal because they fit the description of one that they saw on TV or read about in the newspaper.

- ALF: Season 4, episode 3, "Wanted: Dead or Alive" (1989). Alf thinks Willie bears a strong resemblance to a serial polygamist and swindler he saw on "Crime Stoppers."
- The Simpsons: Season 1, episode 13, "Some Enchanted Evening" (1990). To make up for not appreciating her enough, Homer takes Marge out for a romantic evening and hires a babysitter from a service. When Lisa and Bart defy Marge's orders and watch "America's Most Armed and Dangerous," they suspect their babysitter is "The Babysitter Bandit." It turns out they're right.
- Wings: Season 2, episode 21, "Murder She Roast" (1991). Brian is staying with Fay while Joe's house is being fumigated. He watches a TV show called "Fugitives from Justice" about a woman who takes in boarders and murders them, and she looks a lot like Fay, so Brian starts to fear for his life.
- It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Season 3, episode 10, "Mac is a Serial Killer" (2007). There's a serial killer going around murdering young, blonde women, and Mac has been acting very strangely, staying out all night, and coming back with scratches on his neck, so Frank believes Mac is the serial killer, he and Charlie follow Mac around, search his room, and interview his mom for evidence. Meanwhile, Mac's actual secret is that he's in a relationship with a transgender woman, and he doesn't want the rest of the gang to know.
