A character refuses to take a vacation from work and has to be forced to by their boss.

- The Patty Duke Show: Season 2, episode 21, "Patty and the Newspaper Game" (1965). Martin's boss thinks he needs a rest, but Martin refuses to take a vacation, so the boss hires an executive assistant so Martin can have a break.
- Get Smart: Season 2, episode 6, "Casablanca" (1966). The Chief orders Max to go on vacation to keep him off a case, and Max refuses.
- The Mary Tyler Moore Show: Season 2, episode 9, "And Now, Sitting in for Ted Baxter" (1971).Ted refuses to take a vacation because he's afraid his replacement will be better than him and get his job, but his union requires that he take one every year. When Mary makes him take two weeks off, his worst fears are almost confirmed.
- Cheers: Season 7, episode 16, "The Cranemakers" (1989). Rebecca finds out that Woody has never taken a vacation, so she tells him he has to take one. Woody doesn't want to take a vacation because he's happy going to work, but Rebecca plans a trip to Italy for him and makes him go.
