An adult character gets a job as a candy striper. The joke is that candy stripers are usually high school students.

• The Bob Newhart Show: Season 4, episode 15, "Bob Has to Have His Tonsils Out, So He Spends Christmas Eve in the Hospital" (1975). While Bob is in the hospital for his tonsillectomy, he's attended to by a patient of his, Mrs. Loomis, an elderly candy striper.
• Rhoda: Season 1, episode 24, "Ida, the Elf" (1975). Ida gets a job as a candy striper to the amusement of Rhoda and Brenda.
• The Golden Girls: Season 6, episode 2, "Once in St. Olaf" (1990). Rose volunteers as a candy striper at the hospital, where she runs into her long lost biological father.
• The Nanny: Season 2, episode 21, "Close Shave" (1995). Maggie wants to take a night off from her job as a candy striper so she can go on a date, but she can't find anyone to fill in for her, so she gets Fran to do it by flattering her and telling her she could easily pass for 16.
