Moonlighting
A character either takes on a second job or gets an after-school job to make some extra money, and it makes them so exhausted that every other part of their life suffers (because it's not possible for one person to work more than one job, apparently).

- The Patty Duke Show: Season 1, episode 35, "The Working Girl" (1964). Patty gets a job at the soda shop and is so exhausted she spends all her free time sleeping.
- The Mary Tyler Show: Season 2, episode 17, "The Slaughter Affair" (1972). Murray wants to buy his wife a car for their upcoming anniversary, so he takes a second job driving a cab, which leaves him so exhausted he starts screwing up at the newsroom, and Mary has to cover for him.
- The Odd Couple: Season 4, episode 14, "The Moonlighter" (1974). When Felix gives Oscar money to get Yankees season tickets for his big client, Oscar loses it on a horse instead. To pay Felix back, Oscar works the night shift as a short-order cook at a greasy spoon, and it leaves him constantly exhausted.
- Barney Miller: Season 3, episode 18, "Moonlighting" (1977). Harris gets a night job at a hotel to help fund his extravagant lifestyle, and he's so exhausted he's asleep on his feet.
- It's a Living: Season 1, episode 6, "Super-Mom" (1980). Jan gets a second job handwriting invitations to pay for her daughter's ballet lessons. When she falls behind, she starts working on the invitations at the restaurant, leaving the other waitresses to cover for her.
- ALF: Season 1, episode 10, "Baby, You Can Drive My Car" (1986). Lynn gets an after-school job at a fast food joint to save up for a car, and she can barely stay awake while studying the employee manual.
- Cheers: Season 10, episode 14, "No Rest for Woody" (1991). To afford an engagement ring for Kelly, Woody gets a night job at a graveyard, and the lack of sleep makes him pass out at Cheers and even hallucinate.
- Wings: Season 4, episode 15, "The Gift: Part 1" (1992). To raise enough to buy a new cello, Helen gets a night job gutting fish in a plant, and it not only makes her so tired she falls asleep at the lunch counter, but it also makes her "smell like low tide," as Joe put it.
- The Office (US): Season 4, episode 4, "Money" (2007). Ever since Jan got fired and moved in with Michael, she's been spending money like it's going out of style. To stay afloat, Michael takes a second job as a telemarketer at night, and it's making him exhausted. When he's so burned out that he neglects to create a presentation for Ryan, Ryan tells him he has to quit his second job or he's fired.
