Get a Raise
A character demands a raise from their boss, but instead they lose their job either because they got fired or quit. Usually they end up working some crappy menial job, but they always get their original job back by the end of the episode.

- The Munsters: Season 1, episode 37, "Herman's Raise" (1965). Lily is upset that Herman works long hours for low pay, so she orders him to demand a raise from his boss; his boss responds by firing him, and Herman can't seem to find another job.
- What's Happening!!: Season 3, episode 15, "Shirley's Fired" (1979). Shirley demands a raise from Rob, but Rob says he's hiring another waitress to help her instead. The new waitress, Liz, is so completely inept that she just makes more work for Shirley, so Shirley quits.
- Too Close for Comfort: Season 5, episode 4, "All in a Day's Unemployment" (1985). Monroe tells Henry he can't pay his rent because after his job takes out all the deductions from his paychecks, he's left with nothing, so Herny encourages him to demand a raise from his boss, which gets him fired.
- Newhart: Season 6, episode 12, "Support Your Local Shifflet" (1987). Office Shifflet demands a raise from the Mayor Chester and "his sidekick Jim," but they turn him down, so he quits, thinking the town will descend into a hotbed of crime and beg him to come back, and when someone paints a fire hydrant bright red, Chester and Jim decide to hire him back to stop the "crime spree."
- Perfect Strangers: Season 2, episode 20, "Get a Job" (1987). Larry and Balki demand a raise from Mr. Twinkacetti, and he not only refuses but also says he hired someone else, and he's docking their salaries to pay him. Larry quits, and Balki follows suit, and they have to take jobs working at a greasy spoon for a randy woman who can't keep her hands to herself.
