Dying Artist
One or more characters believes an artist is going to die, so they decide to buy some of their art, thinking they can clean up after the artist dies. Something always goes wrong.

- Taxi: Season 2, episode 22, "Art Work" (1980). Elaine tells the gang about an artist who is dying, so they all go to an auction to buy some of his art in anticipation of its value going up after he dies. Unfortunately, the artist dies partway through the auction, and the prices go up before they can bid.
- The Golden Girls: Season 4, episode 11, "The Auction" (1988). The gang hears that a famous artist is dying, so they buy some of his art at an auction so they can cash in when he's dead and have their roof fixed, but the artist survives.
- Seinfeld: Season 4, episode 20, "The Junior Mint" (1993). Elaine's artist ex-boyfriend, Roy, is in critical condition after a surgery gone wrong, and George recently came into some money, so he decides to buy some of Roy's art, thinking that if dies, it'll be worth more. Unfortunately, Roy pulls through, and he says that George buying his art helped him through his recovery.
