A character asks the rest of the gang to lie for them and pretend they're something they're not in order to impress someone.
The Addams Family
Appearances
- The Addams Family: Season 1, episode 17, "Mother Lurch Visits the Addams Family" (1964). When Lurch receives a letter from his mother saying she's coming to visit, he reveals to the Addamses that he told her he owns the house. So, Gomez and Morticia send the rest of the family away and pretend to be Lurch's servants to please his mother.
- The Odd Couple: Season 3, episode 7, "The Odd Couples" (1972). Oscar's mom is coming to visit, and Oscar reveals to Felix that he never told her he and Blanche were divorced, and he told her that Felix and Gloria got re-married. While his mom is staying in their apartment, Oscar insists they all pretend that both couples are still together to spare her the stress.
- Rhoda: Season 3, episode 9, "Meet the Levys" (1976). Gary wants to convince his parents that he dates nice girls, so he asks Brenda to go with him to their house for dinner and pretend to be his girlfriend, but Brenda gets sick with swine flu, so Rhoda agrees to go in her place.
- Too Close for Comfort: Season 5, episode 5, "Devereaux & Son" (1985). Paul Devereaux appears at the Rush home while Iris is visiting and announces that he has a son he never knew about, and when he meets him, he wants the Rushes to pretend to be his family so his son doesn't think he's a loser drifter.
- Cheers: Season 4, episode 5, "Diane Nightmare" (1985). In Diane's nightmare, Andy Andy gets out of jail and wants to introduce the gang at Cheers to his new fiance, but he has told her a few lies, and he wants everyone to go along with them.
- Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place: Season 1, episode 12, "Two Guys, a Girl and a Dad" (1998). Berg hasn't told his dad that he dropped out of law school to major in philosophy, so when his dad comes to visit, he asks Pete, Sharon, and the gang at the pizza place to lie and pretend he still aspires to be a lawyer, but Pete soon discovers that Berg's dad has a secret too: he quit the law to become a caricaturist.
- Black Books: Season 3, episode 3, "Moo-Ma and Moo-Pa" (2004). Manny's parents come to visit, and apparently he told them he's a partner the bookshop and Fran is his girlfriend, so he asks Fran and Bernard to play along, but it gets old fast, and "Moo-Ma and Moo-Pa" overstay their welcome.
- Curb Your Enthusiasm: Season 5, episode 8, "The Ski Lift" (2005). To avoid giving Richard Lewis a kidney, Larry tries to butter up the head of the kidney consortium, Ben Heineman, an Orthodox Jew. He invites Heineman on a ski weekend with Cheryl, Jeff, and Susie, and he asks them all to play along with his ruse to convince Heineman that he's also an Orthodox Jew. He somehow talks Susie into pretending to be his Orthodox Jewish wife, while Jeff and Cheryl pretend to be married to each other.
