Rear Window

A character passes the time by watching their neighbors through the window like Jimmy Stewart in Rear Window, and they think they see a crime being committed, usually a murder.

• Get Smart: Season 4, episode 24, "Greer Window" (1969). Max gets shot in his rear end and is temporarily out of commission, so he spends his time watching an office building across from his apartment, and he catches KAOS agents stealing secret documents.
• ALF: Season 1, episode 21, "Lookin' Through the Windows" (1987). During a power outage, since Alf can't watch TV, he watches the Ochmoneks through a window and suspects Mr. Ochmonek of murdering Mrs. Ochmonek.
• It's a Living: Season 6, episode 6, "Rear Window" (1988). Dot has been using binoculars to spy on a randy couple in the next building through a window, and it's all fun and games until she thinks she sees the man murder the woman. To make matters worse, no one believes her, and the killer shows up in the restaurant.
