Strange Bedfellows
A character dates a politician or someone connected to one, and it doesn't work out. Usually the political person is too busy to date or the character doesn't like the public attention. Occasionally the political person doesn't reveal who they are at first, and it comes out later in a big scandal.

- The Mary Tyler Moore Show: Season 2, episode 15, "The Five-Minute Dress" (1972). Mary dates the assistant to the governor, but he's so busy working and travelling that he has no time to see her.
- Cheers: Season 4, episode 26, "Strange Bedfellows: Part 3" (1986). Sam dates a city councilwoman, and his refusal to make a commitment reflects poorly on her career, so she breaks up with him.
- Dream On: Season 3, episode 1, "And Bimbo Was His Name-o" (1992). An attractive woman buys Martin a drink in a bar, they hit it off, and they go back to his place, but she runs out early the next morning and disappears. When Martin watches the news, he realizes he just slept with a congressman's wife, and when the press gets word of it, it blows up into a huge scandal.
